The Industrial Gas Museum of the Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens<\/a>, the first industrial museum of Athens, completes more than 10 years of creative presence<\/strong>, having welcomed more than 150,000 visitors of all ages<\/p>\n

On the occasion of 10 years at 2023 of the Museum has been planned a series of anniversary activities that accompany its stable programme and reflect its multifaceted and extroverted activity: A workshop on the reuse of industrial heritage, adult evening tours, industrial routes in the city, a gala concert, a weekend dedicated to children and a series of actions to renew the museum exhibition invite young and old alike to a year of celebration.<\/p>\n

In 2013, the Museum opened its doors with the aim of highlighting the historical value of the old Athens gasworks that provided light and energy to the city for almost 130 years. Through a 13-stop museum route, the visitor discovers a rare for European standards industrial monument – the only one that retains all its mechanical equipment in situ – that through its reuse remains alive.<\/p>\n

This museum is also one of the most kids-friendliest museums\u00a0 of the city, as it organizes often activities and tours for\u00a0 children such as Teddy’s Day<\/a>, A night at the Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Saturday 29 & 30 March 2025: The Roots of the Gas: a festival of memories and art @ Technopolis\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The RIZES group and the Industrial Gas Museum of the Municipality of Athens collaborate in a unique evening dedicated to history, tradition and art.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, March 29th<\/strong>, Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens hosts for the first time the event “The Roots of the Gas”, an initiative of the RIZES group and the Industrial Museum of Gasworks. With a rich programme of music, theatre and visual arts interventions inspired by the history of the old gasworks and the memories of the people who worked there, the festival of memories and art will highlight the importance of the site as a focal point for Athens of the past, while offering an original and interactive experience to the public.<\/p>\n

Artistic creations, traditional sounds, folk tales, theatrical events and revivals of customs will introduce the public to aspects of another era, a special and unrecognized microcosm of the past: that created by the workers of the factory, many of whom were internal immigrants who brought with them the customs and traditions that left their imprint on Gazi, this special neighborhood of Athens. This collective memory and cultural heritage gave rise to the “Roots of Gazi”.<\/p>\n

More specifically, these particular “roots” will unfold through an original series of art installations, curated by the Nowstalgism group. Inspired by the elements of the site – fire, water, coal, light – as well as the memories of the people preserved through time, four contemporary artists will create works that interact with the architecture and history of the old factory, transforming landmark spaces such as the Furnaces, the Waterworks and the Observatory. At the same time, in the courtyard of the Machine Shop, visitors will enjoy storytelling, polyphonic songs and a concert of melodies inspired by collective memory and folk tradition. During the breaks in the main programme, participants will have the opportunity to discover free-flowing theatrical events at the museum stops, bringing to life the stories of the people of the factory. At the end of the evening, an island patina will revive the special “ceremony” that the factory workers used to perform in honour of their retired colleagues.<\/p>\n
