Originally, the Spanish proposal was to commemorate World Radio Day on 30 October, in memory of Orson Welles’ famous 1938 broadcast, which went down in history as the “War of the Worlds”. UNESCO, however, decided otherwise and proposed 13 February, the date on which the UN radio was first launched in 1946.
