The Athens International Literature Festival opens its doors for the first time in March 2026, putting Athens firmly on the map of European literary events. With high-quality offerings for a wide range of tastes, AILF aims to become a yearly staple for literature lovers who want to come together and be part of something bigger: a community of dedicated readers that shares common interests and concerns. Defying the usual format of isolated book presentations, AILF focuses on the issues that energize international literature today, from politics and aesthetics to AI, gender, migration and the climate crisis, inviting authors from Greece and abroad to participate in three days of thought-provoking discussion, constructive idea exchange and nuanced debate.
The AILF is taking place at one of the most central and historically significant landmarks of the city, the Technopolis City of Athens. A rich schedule of side events, including book signings, workshops, exhibitions, screenings and parties will complement the stimulating conversations, appealing not only to the initiated but also to the wider reading public.
Krasznahorkai’s presence marks a historic opening for the festival’s very first edition, placing Athens at the heart of the international literary scene. He will take part in public discussions and book signings, engaging openly with writers and readers.
Featuring Booker Prize winners David Szalay (2025) and Paul Lynch (2023), alongside leading international and Greek authors, AILF presents a powerful, truly global literary programme from its very first year.
