On 23 April 1616, two great names in literature died: the Spanish author of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes, and the English dramatist William Shakespeare. To mark this double event, UNESCO has designated 23 April as World Book Day.

Another important day for books lover is the 26th of May which starts the Little Bookstores Week and it’s the best opportunity to discover some of the most beautiful book spots of the city with many activities for you and your family. So, let’s go for a walk to some of the most beautiful bookshops in Athens – most of them have also a cafe, so you can enjoy your book as you are drinking your Freddo Espresso, the best iced coffee of the world. Some of our favorite bookshops of Athens are below, but our suggestion is always to go out in the neighborhood you stay, find the closest bookshop and enter to get lost in the bookish atmosphere!
