Nafplio, one of the most beautiful cities of Greece, is just a 2h drive from the capital of country, and  it is for sure worth for a day excursion any period you visit the country. Apart from the visit to the old town and climb at its castle with 999 stairs (maybe less, but this is the urban myth), you could also visit the important archaeological site of Mycenae which is very close, the archaeological site of Nemea, while tasting one of the best Greek wine variety, as this area is famous for its vineyards, ancienct theater of Epidaudrus, or the castle of Ancient Corinth (Akrokorinthos).

If  you travel in Nafplio  during summer, there are also a lot of things to do around. First of all, you will  start your day  with a swim  swim at Karathonas or Arvanitia beach with a view to the Palamidi castle, or/and even an easy level hike around the castle with a wonderful view.

There are also some very interesting local music festivals: the official festival of the city 34th Nafplion Festival 2025Lelekios Fiesta in Nea  Kios, usually  held  in the old tomato factory of  Pelargos, few minutes  away, the Great Days of Nemea, one of  the most important wine festivals  in Greece, only 40 minutes away from Nafplio. And the brand new Acronafplia Festival which started on  2024.

The FOUGARO ARTCENTER welcomes the Music & Wine Festival for the second year running with the participation of 17 wineries from Nemea. A festival that combines the power of music with the rich wine tradition of the region, through the presentation of labels from selected wineries in Nemea. On Friday 19 and Saturday 20 September from 9.30 p.m., the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse musical program ranging from innovative approaches and experimental sounds to more classic and beloved musical genres of the Greek scene. At the same time, visitors will learn about and taste wines with Protected Designation of Origin from the Nemea region. Starting from the relationship between music and wine, which has been lost in the depths of time, we await you for a two-day celebration full of inspiration, enjoyment, and creativity! Admission is free to the public.

Great Days of Nemea 2025

The Great Days of Nemea, the most… intoxicating three days of summer has arrived and this year marks 21 years! From Friday 5th to Sunday 7th of September 2025, we discover the secrets of the vineyard, the different expressions of Agiorgitiko -and not only- we tour the wineries and meet the people behind the labels…

The Great Days of Nemea is one of the most important institutions in the field of Greek wine. These are events that take place in Nemea, the largest wine-producing zone in Greece, which includes 17 villages.

The events include visits and tastings and individual events at the wineries, central thematic tastings by wine experts and artistic events. The aim is to protect and promote PDO Nemea wine, based on the local variety Agiorgitiko, and to enhance wine tourism in the region.
