Cinemas across Europe will open their doors to audiences in a grand celebration of European film culture as the European Cinema Night returns. In this seventh edition of the European Cinema Night, 88 cinemas will organise free screenings and events to showcase the diversity of European cinema under the theme of ‘Sharing stories we love’. This 2024 edition will have a special focus on smaller cities and over 10,000 Europeans are expected to enjoy the screenings of films across different eras and genres.
Launched in 2018, the European Cinema Night has expanded with each year. The first edition saw 34 participating theatres; participation grew to 54 in 2019 increased to 67 in 2020 and in 2021 saw 71 cinemas. In 2022, 75 cinemas took part, and in 2023 the number rose to 85.
Danaos Cinema in Athens participates in this film festival with the screening of the award-winning film The Blue Caftan by Maryam Touzani. The diamond film from the Cannes Film Festival 2022 that was loved like few other films by the Greek audience and won two awards at the Athens Film Festival “Premiere Nights”.
The screening will be introduced by film critic and Flix columnist Leda Galanou.
The admission is free and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
