We ‘ve said many times that Greece is not only for summer holidays, but there are winter and all-year gems too.  One of those, Pindus Trail of Pindus Mountains has reached in NY Times that included in its post 52 places to go in 2025, and we are very proud for it as  we know personally that the couple who is responsible for this trail have done -and still do- very good work on it. So, if you plan to visit Delphi when  in Athens, and it’s a must-visit for sure, don’t miss out to walk a part of this trail. And probably exchange some travel stories with Apostolis & Stavroula to refill your travel plans for the next years! Check more info about this project here too include it in your trip.

Greece may not be famous for hiking, but that could soon change with the inauguration of the 500-mile Pindus Trail. This 42-day trek through the Pindus Mountain, which ru from the Albanian border to the coast of Delphi, offer a glimpse of a different Greece, one of snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys, pristine lakes and red-tiled villages. In other words, a Greece beyond the popular imagination. For decades, these once-vibrant mountain communities have suffered from depopulation and economic decline. The Pindus Trail project aims to reverse this trend by promoting the region as a year-round alternative to the oversaturated “Athens and islands” itinerary.
Visitors can follow ancient shepherding trails and stay in rustic villages steeped in the country’s little-known highland culture. Much of the trail remains a work in progress, but the section that begins in Delphi should be ready to hike by summer. Start by visiting the seat of the ancient world’s most famous oracle, and then hike along the flanks of Mount Parnassus towards the summit of Mount Giona, passing through cedar forests, Byzantine monasteries and charming, time-lost villages.
