Looking for a holiday adventure outside Athens? A day trip to Kalamata is the perfect choice! It’s the second biggest city of Peloponnese region, after Patra, known for its rich history and stunning seaside views, Kalamata transforms into a festive wonderland during the holiday season. Here, you will also have the chance to see the most traditional Greek custom of decorating a ship instead of the Christmas tree:  Kalamata has both.

Visit the charming Christmas Village, where twinkling lights, live performances, and cozy market stalls set the scene for a magical day. Savor local treats (don’t leave from the city without trying  lalagkia), shop for handcrafted gifts, and enjoy the festive atmosphere that fills the town.

Whether you’re traveling with family or friends, with or without kids, this delightful getaway combines the spirit of Christmas with the beauty of Kalamata.

The activities will be held in the city until January 6th and you can  find the complete Christmas program here to plan your visit!

Access: To reach Kalatamata from Athens, without your own car, you could use bus. Your departure will be from Kifissos Bus Station, and you could see the updated hours here and book your ticket online. It’s around a 3h trip,  depends on the route you will choose.  Of  course, you could book  a private tour to have a  more independent, relaxed and comfortable trip.
