As Carnival season is in full swing, let’s explore some of Greece’s most exciting traditions! One of the highlights takes place on the island of Syros, the capital of the Cyclades. While the Cycladic islands are often a summer favorite, Syros offers a unique charm in winter, with a vibrant local community that keeps the island lively year-round. Ok, maybe it is not the best period to visit Cyclades due to frequent earthquakes  in Santorini, but Syros is not affected. Yet.

The Syros Carnival, known for its family-friendly atmosphere, is a must-visit—especially for those traveling with children. Expect colorful parades, festive events, and a joyful spirit filling the streets!  Check out the full program and start planning your visit!

Throughout the week, teams move at the fast pace of this interactive game that has become an institution.

First Carnival Parade (February 21)
Carnival teams will fill the narrow streets of Ano Syros.

Second Carnival Parade and Closing Ceremony of the Syros Carnival (22/2)
In the spirit of the Syros poet Georgios Souris, a master of satire, played by Giorgos Michalakis, the carnival groups will take part in an impressive parade of colors and imagination, which will end with a wild party with Shiny Dimes in Miaouli Square!

We fly kites, enjoy traditional Lenten dishes, and dance in various locations around the island, in a joint organization of the Municipal Communities and local cultural organizations.

The Hero District Super Heroes Museum opened very recently in Ano Syros, and houses over 100 statues of heroes and fantasy characters with unique details? The museum is home to over 100 statues of heroes and fantasy characters with unique details. Entrance – guided tour costs 10€/person.

Syros is only 3h30 from Piraeus port – be careful as there are ferries from Lavrio port too and make the trip in  around 5h. Check here to find your best route.
