Eleusina, a city just 1h from Athens, an industrial city nowadays, but with a long history, and it has many ancient ruins and sights worth to see it.  In fact, it is one of the most important archaeological  sites near Athens.  Also, it was the European Capital of  Culture 2023.

It could  be one  of  your choices as a day trip from Athens if you want something beyond the usual. You should visit the archaeological site, you will have your lunch at Lefteris-Fish restaurant, a place where you can always find some fresh and tasteful fish, and if it’s summer, you could attend some cultural event at the local festival and then you return in Athens after a full day.

New Exhibition: MYSTERY 15 THE LIVING MUSEUM: WHY ELEFSINA TODAY? FROM MELANCHOLY TO VISION

2023 Eleusis European Capital of Culture presents the visual art and research project Mystery 15 The Living Museum, by Vana Xenou.

The major retrospective exhibition, opening to the public on Sunday 30 March, is hosted at two emblematic locations in the city: the renovated IRIS factory and the Archaeological Site, highlighting Eleusis as an open-air museum and revealing its dual identity, between the sacred and the industrial, initiation and oblivion.”
The project Mystery 15 The Living Museum is realised in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union – Next GenerationEU. With the support of the Ephorate of Antiquities of West Attica.
