If you are a cat lover and you are in  Athens this weekend, you don’t want to miss out this festival happening in the city for a first time. Cat Cafe Athens (Nileos 54, 11851, Thissio, Athens) organizes  the Cat Festival for second year on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 February 2026, from 11am to 10pm, in the city Old Carriage House – OSI in Gazi

The biggest celebration for stray cats in Europe is here!

It promises to be a two-day celebration dedicated to all cat lovers! The festival brings together cat lovers, artists, pet companies, and more—creators and animal welfare organizations—all united by the common goal of caring for, raising awareness about, and finding homes for stray cats. Visitors can meet cats up for adoption, participate in workshops, support animal welfare initiatives, and learn about their activities. It’s an experience that combines fun, awareness, and love for animals, inviting people of all ages to celebrate with us.

Behind this innovative festival, are Natali and Dimitris, life companions and co-creators of Cat Cafe Athens, the 1st cat cafe in Greece, which appeared in the city centre in September 2023, with the aim of taking care of the welfare of stray cats, to promote adoptions, to educate around cat-related issues and of course to break all the taboos around misunderstood cats, which are actually very loving and lovable creatures.

In Greece, it is estimated that there are over 2 million stray cats, while many people care for cats in their yards and neighborhoods, often from their own savings. These special stories are worth hearing, to inspire others to follow suit. Through this event, we can help create a model Greece for cat adoption and welfare worldwide. At the 1st Cat Festival, we have the pleasure of hosting the 1st Adoption Day 2025 in collaboration with Pet City, along with 23 animal welfare organizations from all over the country. Approximately 35 kitties looking for their forever home will be there, giving visitors the opportunity to meet them up close and personal. At the same time, they will be able to talk to the people in charge of the organizations and, if they wish, proceed with a responsible adoption, in accordance with the law. At our Festival, we will have the opportunity to learn from qualified professionals in the field about veterinary issues, as well as cat behaviour and training issues. The talks will cover useful information such as proper cat care during pregnancy, proper ways to manage obesity in cats, and important legal issues regarding the welfare of our pets. All talks will be held with simultaneous interpretation in sign language.
