One of the most important archaeological sites in Greece is the museum and the excavations of Vergina, a little town close to  Thessaloniki. If you are planning a trip to Greece and you want to visit the northern part of the country, you should absolutely  visit this place. It was a day like today but back on 1961 that Palace of Vergina comes to light from the excavations conducted by the University of Thessaloniki under the archaeologist Manolis Andronikos.

You can check the official  website to get updates about the current exhibitions, organized tour guides and all the necessary info to plan your visit. The easiest way to get there if your base is in Athens is to travel in Thessaloniki by  train, then rent a car – it’s only a 50-min drive from there.
