The Athens Science Festival began in 2014. Over the years, it has established itself as an institution and a cultural event focusing on science, technology, innovation, and art. Every year, citizens, students, teachers, and families explore science in fun, innovative, and interactive ways. At the same time, researchers, distinguished scientists, educators, and artists give their best to explain science and make the viewer part of it.

From its first year to the present day, the Athens Science Festival has rightly been described as one of the biggest celebrations of science and technology in Greece. In addition to the large turnout, which has exceeded 200,000 visitors in the ten years since its inception, the Athens Science Festival is proud to have not only achieved its initial goals, but also expanded them.

Every year, it keeps its promise: it connects science with everyday life and highlights its role, presents the high-quality scientific research being done in Greece, discusses and seeks answers to complex and controversial scientific issues, inspires and creates new standards in the field of science, and encourages young people to consider a career in science. But above all, the Athens Science Festival has succeeded in showing young and old alike that science is not only knowledge but also entertainment.

Since 2014, ASF has remained the largest science festival that brings new knowledge to the general public through continuous and open dialogue with the scientific, academic, research, and business communities.

The Science and Innovation Festival has not remained confined to the Greek capital, but has traveled to Thessaloniki (TSF), Larissa (ThSF), Patras (PSF), Ioannina (ISF), Lemnos (AeSF), and Cyprus (MSF), while other regions of Greece are expected to host their own special events in the future.

The Athens Science Festival 2025, which will take place from December 18 to 21, will be hosted at the iconic Athens Conservatory, a venue of particular cultural and historical significance in the city center.

The  Christmas Lab

We know what you’ll be doing this year just before Christmas: From December 18 to 21, the Athens Science Festival returns and invites you to a sparkling Christmas Workshop at the Athens Conservatory, where the magic of the festive season will meet the discoveries of science, technology, and innovation.

What does friction have to do with Santa’s fairy-tale sleigh? What lies behind the delicious aromas of cookies or the dazzling colors of decorations? Can artificial intelligence write a Christmas letter? And what role do psychology and neuroscience play in the festive mood?

The Christmas Lab at the Athens Science Festival 2025 invites you to “unwrap” the gifts of science and explore how it interacts with everyday life and everything that fascinates us—from light and music to decorations, the scents and traditions of the holidays—making learning a magical experience for all ages, just before Christmas.

The “little elves” of the city’s largest and longest-running science and technology festival are already working diligently on its Christmas event: The festive program of the ASF Christmas Lab is being feverishly planned for restless minds, including imaginative science shows, interactive workshops and exhibitions for children and adults, enjoyable stand-up comedy for our older visitors, as well as exciting talks.
